Talwandi Sabo, March 3, 2014: Guru Kashi University, Talwandi Sabo held a colorful Guru Kashi Gyan-Vigyan Khetibari Mela with great pump & sound. Sukhwinder Singh Aulukh, Ex-MLA & now chairman, PUNSEED who was the Chief Guest inaugurated the mela. He was given a rousing welcome by the Chancellor, Chairman, General Secretary, Managing Director, Vice Chancellor & other officers of the university. Thousands of farmers from the surrounding villages thronged the Mela. There were about 55 stalls displaying significant creations of all the colleges of the university, agricultural machinery of prominent manufactures, PAU & PUNSEED stalls selling certified seed of Kharif crops and two stalls of food crops selling delicious eatables. Famous agriculturist Sukhpal Singh Bhullar and Gurcharan Singh Mann awarded by Guru Kashi Kissan Sanman in this khetibari Mela for their progressive farming.
Eminent agricultural scientists of different subjects enlightened the farmers about latest techniques of agriculture. Also there was a meaningful question-answer session where the experts answered to the queries of the farmers. The experts panel includes Famous agricultural scientist Dr. Daljit Singh (Vegetables), Dr. Jatinder Singh Brar (Soils), Dr. Joginder Singh (Cotton Expert), Dr. J.S Brar (Kharif Expert), Dr. Ajmer Singh Sidhu (Insecticide& Pesticide Expert), Dr. R.S Sohta (Animal Sciences) & Dr. Bhagwant Singh Chahal.
The Chief Guest in his keynote address, hailed the efforts of the University for organizing such a wonderful mela which was of immense benefit to the farmers. He advised the farmers to adopt Package of Practices of the Agricultural University and also follow the advice of the Scientists to get maximum dividend of their crops.
Dr. J.S Dhaliwal, Chancellor, while addressing the gathering stated that it is the earnest endeavor of the university to organise such Melas and enhance the knowledge of the farmers through seminars, visit of the scientists at the door-step of the farmers for which university has appointed agricultural scientists of national & international repute. Besides, the university is committed to intensify its efforts to eradicate social evils like Drug- addiction and female foeticide.
Amarjeet Singh Sidhu, IAS (Retd) also supplemented the advice of the scientists and urged upon the farmers to visit this university as and when they find any problem in agriculture.
Dr. N.S Malhi, Vice Chancellor dwelt upon the problems which the farmers are confronted with and the challenges posed to the scientists to tackle the same effectively. He also laid stress on diversification of coops and not sticks only to wheat & rice crops to save water for the future.
Gurlabh Singh Sidhu, Chairman thanked the Chief-Guest, the Guest of Honour, other dignitaries, sarpanches, farmers, district administration, police authorities, staff & students of this university for making thie mela a grand success.
On this occasion offer letters were also handed over to 8 engineering students who were selected by Air Soft Infoysys.
Thereafter a colorful cultural programme was held and prizes were given to the winners of Lok-Kalawan & Gatka Team under the guidance of Pargat Singh Bhodipura performed in the Mela. Famous environmentalist and singer Ram Singh Albela sang songs in the favor of ecology and gave message of friendly environment for the coming generation.
