Gunjeet Ruchi Bawa Reaches Out to 500+ Students through ‘Nanhe Kadam’ at Government High School Sherpur Kalan
Child rights awareness session encourages students to stay safe, informed and connected to education

Ludhiana, August 10, 2026: Taking the message of child rights and protection to the grassroots, the Nanhe Kadam initiative reached Government High School, Sherpur Kalan, where Gunjeet Ruchi Bawa, Vice Chairperson, Punjab Child Rights Commission, engaged with more than 500 students during an interactive awareness programme.
During her interaction, Bawa urged students to be aware of their rights and responsibilities, value their education and speak up whenever they face abuse, harassment or neglect. She stressed that children must have access to a safe and supportive environment, while also highlighting the importance of personal safety, emotional well-being and awareness about the harmful impact of drug abuse.
Students and teachers were also sensitized about the Child Helpline 1098, encouraging them to seek assistance whenever they or someone around them may require support.
The programme was attended by Parveen Rani, Officiating School In-charge, along with faculty members Jaswinderpal Singh, Alka Dhadwal and Gaurav. Appreciating the initiative, Parveen Rani said, “Such awareness programmes play a vital role in shaping young minds and help children grow into informed, confident and responsible citizens.”
Sharing his experience, a Class IX student said, “This was the first time such a programme was held in our school. I learned about my rights and whom to approach if I ever need help. I am very happy to be a part of it.”
The initiative was further supported by Aas Ehsaas NGO, which distributed stationery items among the students as a gesture of encouragement, adding a meaningful touch to the awareness drive.
