Mohali, March 13, 2019: Chandigarh Group of Colleges, Jhanjeri organised its 5th Annual Sports Meet for giving importance to sports Mr.Dalip Singh Rana, popularly known as “The Great Khali”, the well-known Indian wrestler, promoter and actor was the chief guest at the moment . The Great Khali unfurled the college flag and took salute from the athletes & NCC cadets of Army as well as Navy Units of the college. The function started with a colourful bhangra followed by races of 400 m, 1500 m, 100 m, 200 m, 400 m hurdles and 4X100 m relay race of boys as well as girls. Apart from races, other events included Long Jump, High Jump, Discuss Throw, Shot Put, Spoon Race, Chatti Race, Javelin Throw and Tug of War. Based on the maximum number of points earned by a student on winning First/Second/Third position in various events, Shikha & Sahil Thakur were declared as the best male & female athletes of CGC, Jhanjeri. Best march Past Trophy was captured by Applied Science department. Besides MBA department declared best Annual day Department.

In addition to the winners of all these events, Chief Guest Khali distributed prizes to the winners of various Inter College Sports Competitions organised by PTU during 2018 & 2019. These included Winners Trophy in Volley Ball (Girls), Lawn tennis (Boys) & Kabaddi (Men), Runners-Up Trophy in Cricket (Boys) & Best Physique (Boys), Bronze Medals in Chess (Boys) & Chess (Girls).Rashpal Singh Dhaliwal, President CGC said at the moment that CGC provides all possible facilities for sports and other extracurricular activities of the students. He announced cash prizes for all the winners of PTU’s Inter College Sports Tournaments. Chief Guest Khali emphasized the importance of nutrition by citing from the recent surveys that, more than 60% of children in India fall short of basic fitness criteria considered normal for their age. He encouraged students to change this disturbing trend to be fit and healthy .
