Grand Finale of 78th Kila Raipur Sports Festival witnessed amazing turnout

Kila Raipur (Ludhiana), February 2, 2014: The Grand Finale of the 78th Kila Raipur Sports Festival witnessed amazing turnout with the stadium bursting at its seams. The audience from Indian and abroad, witnessed some amazing action and cultural mix on the day.
In the true sense of sportsmanship all participants contributed their best to compete and win, be it the athletes or the bullock cart owners, tractor racers to the hockey players. With multiple events to witness, the audience was spoilt of choice.
Maruti Suzuki Car pulling challenge saw many contenders using ear, teeth and hair to pull the Alto on the tracks.
Manish Tiwari, Union minister of Information and Broadcasting enjoyed the evening as he visited for 2nd year in a row. He announced a grant of Rs 10 lac to Grewal Sports Association and Rs 5 lac for development of Village Kila Raipur. He also expressed his eagerness to publish a book on the Kila Raipur Sports Festival, its history and significance. It will be a first effort for the event and will take the story to many more people.
Adesh Pratap Kairon, Minister Food & Supply accompanied by his wife Parmeet Kaur Kairon attended the  Kila Raipur Sport Festival. Kairon said,” I have been watching the Rural Olympics since childhood but today looking at the enthusiasm of the participants and organisers,  I’d like to announce  a grant of Rs.10 lac instead of Rs 5 lac that that I had thought about. I wish all the best to Grewal Sports Association.”
Such was the enthusiasm of the audience that each time they cheered the veterans running 100 meters, the bullock carts sprinting across the ground, kabaddi teams or the girls striving to win the 400 meters, the cheer could be heard to a distance from the stadium.
In the veterans (70-75)  set pace in the Ajit Singh Randhawa V Amritsar where as Teja Singh V Phulawal, took the honors in 80+ 100 meters.
Mule cart race had as new winner in PAwitar Sing from Khawaddi beating Saroop Singh from Pakhowal and Sadeek Khan from Hathan.
The Mute and deaf 100 m was won by Sunil Kumar from Ludhiana ahead of Dilraj Singh from Ludhiana.
200 met Women’s final was won by Sunny from Patiala, balzing the track ahead of Sandeep Kaur.
Maninder Singh of Khanna clocked 10.61 sec to be the fastest man of the meet.
