Governor of Punjab Releases Book on Women’s Mental Health
The Punjab Governor and Administrator, UT Chandigarh, Gulab Chand Kataria, today released the book: “Women’s Mental Health in Contemporary India: Trauma, Stigma, and Support” at Punjab Raj Bhavan, Chandigarh.
Chandigarh, November 11, 2025: The Punjab Governor and Administrator, UT Chandigarh, Gulab Chand Kataria, today released the book: “Women’s Mental Health in Contemporary India: Trauma, Stigma, and Support” at Punjab Raj Bhavan, Chandigarh.
Authored by Prof. Namita Gupta, Professor at the Centre for Human Rights and Duties and Dean Student Welfare (Women), Panjab University, the book underscores women’s mental health as a vital yet under-addressed concern shaped by societal expectations, gender roles, and institutional barriers. Organized into five thematic sections, it compiles scholarly insights on trauma, workplace stress, adolescent well-being, and systemic advocacy. This marks Prof. Gupta’s seventh publication.
Speaking at the occasion, the Governor lauded the initiative, emphasizing that women’s mental health is fundamental to personal well-being, family harmony, and societal progress. “Recognizing and addressing women’s mental health is essential for building an equitable and compassionate society,” he said. He added that efforts such as this book strengthen the knowledge base for reform and help foster empathetic and supportive systems.
Prof. Namita Gupta noted, “This book represents a collective effort to amplify women’s voices and lived realities. By connecting mental health with dignity, justice, and rights, we aim to promote policies and community action that are more sensitive and inclusive.”
The release event reiterated the importance of acknowledging women’s mental health as a central pillar of social well-being and inclusive national development.
