Chandigarh, June 26, 2026: Retired IAS officer and MLA Balwinder Singh Dhaliwal has appealed to bureaucrats, police officers, and other government officials to perform their duties strictly within the framework of the Constitution. He urged them not to take any action under political pressure, inducement, or fear that goes against the law, the Constitution, or service rules.
He said that governments come and go, but the impartiality and credibility of the administrative system must remain intact. No officer should make any decision influenced by small or major postings, promotions, personal benefits, or any kind of pressure, as such decisions may create legal or service-related difficulties for them in the future. He said that the strength of a democratic system lies in ensuring that the administration rises above political interference, works in accordance with the spirit of the Constitution, and maintains public trust.
Dhaliwal said that in recent days, allegations have been made against Chief Minister Bhagwant Mann that he tried to get government officials to act improperly in order to protect himself in connection with cases related to sacrilege. He added that whether these allegations are true will be determined by the concerned investigating agencies and courts on the basis of available evidence. However, he said that the entire episode serves as a serious lesson for government officials that their foremost duty is towards the Constitution and the law, and not towards any political individual or government.
Therefore, every officer should ensure that all decisions are taken with complete transparency, impartiality, and in accordance with established legal procedures.
