The Department of Posts has launched a special initiative under the Deendayal Antyodaya Yojana - National Rural Livelihood Mission (DAY-NRLM) to expand insurance coverage in rural areas and create self-employment opportunities. Under this initiative, new Postal Life Insurance (PLI) and Rural Postal Life Insurance (RPLI) policies are being procured through Insurance Security Camps, along with the enrollment of Direct Agents.

Ludhiana, June 19, 2026: The Department of Posts has launched a special initiative under the Deendayal Antyodaya Yojana - National Rural Livelihood Mission (DAY-NRLM) to expand insurance coverage in rural areas and create self-employment opportunities. Under this initiative, new Postal Life Insurance (PLI) and Rural Postal Life Insurance (RPLI) policies are being procured through Insurance Security Camps, along with the enrollment of Direct Agents.
In this connection, Dr. Nishi Mani, Development Officer, Postal Life Insurance, Ludhiana, briefed Himanshu Jain, IAS, Deputy Commissioner, Ludhiana, about the Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) signed between the Department of Posts and the Ministry of Rural Development (MoRD), Government of India. The MoU aims to expand insurance protection and generate livelihood opportunities for rural families through the Deendayal Antyodaya Yojana - National Rural Livelihood Mission (DAY-NRLM).
He informed that the PLI Directorate has issued detailed guidelines for organizing special Insurance Security Camps. The primary objective of these camps is to enroll eligible members of Self-Help Groups (SHGs) as Direct Agents of Postal Life Insurance and Rural Postal Life Insurance, while simultaneously generating new insurance business.
Dr. Nishi Mani further stated that individuals working as Direct Agents can earn prescribed attractive monthly incentives based on their performance. The minimum educational qualification required for enrollment under this scheme is Matriculation (10th Pass).
