Chandigarh, August 7, 2026: Senior Punjab Congress leader and MLA Pargat Singh, during the Punjab Vidhan Sabha Monsoon Session, urged the state government to order a comprehensive statewide investigation into hotels operating near bus stands, railway stations, and schools and colleges across Punjab.
He said that serious allegations have emerged from several places that some hotels, operating in violation of established norms, are being used to trap young people in conspiracies, blackmail them, facilitate drug trafficking, and carry out other illegal activities. Such reports, he said, are deeply alarming and require immediate government intervention.
Pargat Singh stated that establishments located around educational institutions and public transport hubs must be subjected to effective monitoring. If any hotel or guest house is found violating the law, indulging in illegal activities, or ignoring mandatory safety standards, strict legal action should be taken without any discrimination.
He also cautioned that law-abiding hotel owners and businesses should not be harassed in the process. However, those violating rules and regulations must face stringent action, sending a clear message that no one is above the law in Punjab.
He further said that the state government should launch a special inspection drive across Punjab through the Police Department, local administration, the Tourism Department and other concerned agencies. Licences, operational records, security arrangements and compliance with statutory norms of all hotels should be thoroughly examined. Licences of those found guilty should be cancelled immediately and strict legal proceedings initiated against them.
Pargat Singh emphasized that there can be no compromise with the safety, dignity and future of Punjab's youth. He said it is the government's responsibility to ensure strict enforcement of the law and effectively curb those attempting to push young people towards crime, drug abuse and other unlawful activities.
