Ludhiana, August 25, 2026: The Government e-Marketplace (GeM) was inaugurated on Tuesday in Ludhiana by Deputy Commissioner Himanshu Jain, marking an important step towards strengthening digital and transparent government procurement in the district.
GeM is the Government of India’s online procurement platform through which government departments and organisations can purchase a wide range of goods and services from registered sellers. The platform provides facilities such as direct procurement, e-bidding and reverse auction, helping government buyers make procurement more transparent, competitive and efficient.
With the GeM platform, government departments in the district will be able to access products and services through a common digital marketplace, compare available options and undertake procurement through a structured online process.
The platform also provides opportunities for Micro and Small Enterprises, startups, women entrepreneurs and other eligible sellers to participate in government procurement, thereby widening access to government markets.
The initiative is expected to further promote transparency, accountability, ease of procurement and digital governance in government purchasing in Ludhiana.
Speaking on the occasion, the Deputy Commissioner emphasised the importance of adopting digital systems to make government processes simpler, more transparent and efficient.
The inauguration marks another step towards strengthening technology-driven governance and ensuring that public procurement is carried out through a more transparent and accountable system.
