Amritsar, July 16, 2015: “More strengthening of quality research and education, improving fiscal position, revising of syllabi keeping global requirements and health services will be on the main agenda during next three years in the University”. These views were expressed by Prof.A.S. Brar, Vice-Chancellor of Guru Nanak Dev University while addressing the faculty members of the University in the Auditroium of Sri Guru Granth Sahib Bhawan on the eve of successful completion of sixth year and beginning of his third term as Vice-Chancellor of the University. He credited this success to the senators, syndics, faculty, employees, Principals of various affiliated colleges, and students. He hoped that during coming years the university would scale new heights of the achievements in the field of Academics, Research, Sports and Cultural Activities not only at the national level but at the international level also.
He said that he did his earnest and dedicated efforts for the development of  the University. He thanked University fraternity for their support and cooperation. He said that we did not compromised with quality of education and research, we installed suffisticated scientific instruments for quality research and appointed good number of scholars. To facilitate the students, university infrastructure and health facility has been more strengthen, he added.  
He said that in the field of higher education in the country, the proof of recent survey conducted by India Today Group-Nielsen survey of India’s best universities in terms of ranking, this year Guru Nanak Dev University is placed at 5th rank among top five state universities of the country. This University is at no. 12th position in the country and has risen from rank 17 in 2014, speaks itself. He said that since last six year the university has earned the coveted titles like University with Potential for Excellence (UPE) & Centre with Potential for Excellence in Particular Area (CPEPA) in life sciences.  The University got ‘A’ grade from NAAC with a score of 3.51/4 and as per NAAC rating GND University is the 8th best University in the country. 
He said that introduction of Choice Based Continuous Evaluation and Credit System has been a big step in the direction of improvement in the academic standards. This has not only raised the standards of teaching, but also brought transparency in examination and evaluation. This system is based on the Trust & the integrity of teachers. He said that during the last six years, the University was winner of Overall Championship Trophy with Fine Arts and Dance Trophy continuously 6th times in the Inter-University North Zone Youth Festival. In Inter-University National Youth Festival, the University won two times during this time. In sports the University won coveted Maulana Abul Kalam Azad Trophy for a record 22 times alongwith other prestigious trophies of the country.
He said that the University attracts many MNCs which recruited majority of students at handsome salary packages even before the completion of formal studies. Many alumni of the University are spread all over the world, need to participate and contribute for the success of this University, he added. The overall atmosphere of the University is of complete coordination and cooperation between teachers and students, officers and other members of the fraternity of the University. This is the major factor of achieving success.While thanking the fraternity for their cooperation, Prof. Brar said that a lot more can be done in making this institution a National asset and a leader in the field of education in North India. / (SK Vyas, Jalandhar)
