Ludhiana, August 19, 2013:  When 60 years old Sandeep Kaur (name changed) lost her ability to walk and continue with the daily routine without being dependent on  her family members, she felt her life had come to a standstill. M
Sandeep was suffering from severe knee pain for the past so many years that limited her movements to bare minimum. Post complete examination it was diagnosed that Sandeep was suffering severe arthritis that had degenerated her knees causing server pain.
Under the guidance of Dr Sanjeev Mahajan, well-known orthopedic and Consultant Knee Replacement Surgeon, Associate Professor, Department of Orthopedics Dayanand Medical College and Hospital, Ludhiana, Sandeep underwent Total Knee Replacement surgery aimed at improving her quality of life, thus ensuring she regains her mobility and independence to resume her active life again.  
Dr Sanjeev Mahajan, while addressing the media post the operations said " Sandeep has shown good progress post operation and would be able to resume active life within 4-5 days. There have been some breakthrough advancements in the Total Knee Replacement surgery techniques in India that has enabled patients to recover faster post operations rather than 3-4 weeks that were required for recovery earlier."
Dr Sanjeev Mahajan has always been at the forefront of adopting new advancement in the knee replacement surgery procedures, as a part of this initiative he invited Dr Mario Penta, Consultant Orthopedic Surgeon, Flinders University, Adelaide, Australia to India. Dr Penta is a well known orthopedician and is abreast with new advancement in TKR surgeries worldwide.  Dr Mahajan and Dr Penta collaborated together in order to create an interactive knowledge sharing platform and discuss new developments in TKR and use of Oxinium knee implants
Dr Penta also chaired the knowledge sharing session organized by Smith and Nephew and Ludhiana Orthopedic Association (LOA), aimed at educating local orthopedicians on advancement in Total Knee Replacement surgeries and OXINIUM technology
Speaking at the event Dr Mahajan also briefed about the use of Oxinium Knee Implants in India he said “OXINIUM technology the 30 year knee implant has revolutionised knee surgeries worldwide. He mentioned that patients that come in for Total Knee Replacement now a days are also younger than the ones we used to receive 5-7 years back, the average age has reduced from 65 years and above to mid-50s now.
