Chandigarh, September 22, 2026: As part of the ongoing Poshan Maah celebrations, an awareness activity on “Small Grains, Big Benefits” was organised for the parents of children at Chaitanya Laboratory Nursery School, under the aegis of the Department of Human Development, Government Home Science College, Chandigarh on September 19. The initiative aimed to sensitise parents to the nutritional benefits of millets and their role in supporting the healthy growth and development of children during the early years. The activity was organised in alignment with the objectives of Poshan Maah, with a focus on strengthening nutrition awareness and encouraging families to adopt healthy and sustainable dietary practices.
During the session, parents were sensitised to the rich nutritional profile of millets and their contribution to dietary fibre, essential micronutrients and dietary diversity. The discussion highlighted how incorporating a variety of nutritious foods into children’s diets can help establish healthy eating habits from an early age.
Parents were also introduced to simple, nutritious and child-friendly ways of incorporating millets into everyday meals, making healthy foods both appealing and enjoyable for young children. Practical suggestions were shared to encourage families to include millet-based preparations as part of a balanced and diverse diet. The interactive session received an encouraging response, with parents actively participating in the discussion and raising queries regarding the selection, preparation and inclusion of millets in children’s meals.
Principal Prof. Sudha Katyal appreciated the initiative and emphasised the importance of creating nutrition awareness among parents during the formative years of children’s lives. She highlighted that introducing a variety of nutrient-rich foods, including millets, can help foster healthy dietary habits and support the overall well-being of children and families.
The activity reinforced the message that small dietary changes can make a meaningful difference in building healthier eating habits from the early years, thereby contributing to the broader objectives of Poshan Maah and the promotion of a healthier community.
