Chandigarh, February 13, 2026: Government Home Science College, Chandigarh organised an informative and engaging session on “Legal Literacy” to promote awareness about legal rights, duties and responsibilities among NSS Volunteers on Friday. Madhu P. Singh, Former President, District Consumer Commission, Mohali was the resource person. She is also currently serving as a Practising Advocate & Arbitrator at Punjab & Haryana High Court, Chandigarh and a Proud Alumna of our college.

The session aimed to equip volunteers with basic knowledge of the legal system and empower them to make informed decisions in their personal and professional lives. Singh provided valuable insights into fundamental rights, consumer protection laws, cyber safety and legal remedies available to citizens. During the session, real-life examples and case studies were discussed to help volunteers understand practical aspects of the law. Special emphasis was laid on creating awareness about cybercrimes, online fraud and the importance of responsible digital behavior in today’s rapidly evolving technological landscape.

Principal of the college, Prof. Sudha Katyal, applauded the dedicated efforts of the NSS Wing and Legal Literacy Club for organising an informative and insightful session on Legal Literacy for NSS Volunteers. She remarked that such programmes play a crucial role in empowering youth with practical knowledge that helps them face real-life challenges with confidence. Prof. Katyal further added that the college continues to uphold its commitment to community service and holistic development by organizing meaningful activities that enhance students’ awareness and social responsibility.
