GHSC-10 Organises Awareness Programme on ‘Mental Health: Maintaining Social Boundaries’

Chandigarh, September 22, 2026: Government Home Science College, Sector 10, Chandigarh, organised an awareness programme on “Mental Health: Maintaining Social Boundaries” on September 17, with the objective of sensitising students to the importance of establishing and maintaining healthy social boundaries for positive relationships and overall mental well-being.

A comprehensive presentation was delivered to familiarise students with various types of social boundaries, including physical, emotional, verbal, personal and digital boundaries. The session emphasised the importance of recognising one’s own limits, respecting the boundaries of others, communicating assertively and maintaining appropriate boundaries in personal, academic and social interactions.

Furthermore, an interactive role-play activity was also conducted in which students enacted real-life situations involving challenges to social boundaries. Through these enactments, students explored practical ways of responding to uncomfortable situations, communicating their feelings and needs clearly, saying “no” respectfully, respecting personal space and seeking appropriate support whenever required. The activity provided students with an opportunity to apply the concepts in realistic situations and understand how effective boundary-setting can contribute to healthier relationships and improved mental well-being.

The programme benefited approximately 50 students and provided them with practical knowledge and strategies for establishing healthy boundaries in their everyday lives. The interactive presentation and role-play activities encouraged active participation while promoting awareness about respectful communication, self-care, mutual respect, emotional well-being and personal safety.

Principal of the college, Prof. Sudha Katyal appreciated the efforts of the Department of Resource Management & Extension for organising the programme and taking proactive steps towards promoting mental health awareness and nurturing healthy interpersonal relationships among students. She emphasised the importance of equipping young people with practical life skills that contribute to their emotional well-being and harmonious social interactions.

The programme concluded with a reinforced message that healthy boundaries are an essential component of respectful relationships, personal well-being and positive mental health.
