GHSC-10 Conducts Orientation Programme for Academic Session 2026-27
Government Home Science College, Sector-10, Chandigarh, organised a thoughtfully planned Orientation Programme to welcome the incoming batch of students for the Academic Session 2026-27 on August 25, 2026.
Chandigarh, August 26, 2026: Government Home Science College, Sector-10, Chandigarh, organised a thoughtfully planned Orientation Programme to welcome the incoming batch of students for the Academic Session 2026-27 on August 25, 2026. The programme was designed to acquaint the newcomers with the college, its academic environment, institutional ethos and the various opportunities and support systems available to them.
The programme commenced with the traditional lighting of the lamp and Saraswati Vandana, creating an auspicious and inspiring beginning to the new academic session. This was followed by a warm welcome address by the Principal, Prof. Sudha Katyal. Addressing the students, Prof. Katyal emphasised the importance of academic excellence, personal growth and community engagement. She encouraged the newcomers to actively participate in curricular, co-curricular and extracurricular activities for their holistic and 360-degree development.
She urged the students to keep themselves updated and train their minds to develop the right frame of mind towards life and success. Emphasising that there are no shortcuts to success, she encouraged them to believe in themselves, stretch their potential by exploring diverse areas and pursue their dreams with passion. She further motivated the students to recognise their innate potential and reminded them that the stage is set for their success, they must now make the most of the opportunities available to them.
The Chief Guest on the occasion, Swami Bhitiharananda Ji Maharaj, Secretary, Ramakrishna Mission Ashrama, Chandigarh, delivered an inspiring and thought-provoking address. He shared valuable insights on leading a disciplined, value-based and purposeful life. Stressing the importance of cultivating mindful actions that foster spiritual growth and strong character, Swami Ji observed that the true purpose of education is to create good human beings and responsible citizens, with character development being of paramount importance. He also highlighted the power of positive thoughts, the need to strengthen and train the mind, and the enduring relevance of Swami Vivekananda’s message of continuous learning throughout life.
Prof. Reetinder Brar subsequently briefed the students about the campus rules and regulations, with particular emphasis on discipline, punctuality, regularity and the prohibition of mobile phone usage during lectures. The newcomers were also introduced to the faculty members, various academic departments and key student support services, including the Diet Clinic, Aasha Counselling Cell and the Innovation, Entrepreneurship & Placement (IEP) Cell.
The students were further acquainted with the benefits and opportunities offered through NSS, NCC, Music, Dance and other cultural and extracurricular activities. They were provided an overview of the curriculum, academic expectations, extracurricular opportunities and research avenues available at the college, enabling them to gain a comprehensive understanding of campus life.
As a significant part of the programme, the students along with faculty members also took a pledge against drug abuse, reaffirming their commitment to stay away from drugs and work collectively towards building a drug-free, healthy and responsible society.
The programme concluded with a guided campus tour, offering the new students a firsthand experience of the vibrant learning environment and facilities of the institution. The Orientation Programme marked an inspiring and meaningful beginning to the academic journey of the new batch, setting a positive tone for a year filled with learning, growth, self-discovery and achievement.
