GHSC-10 Conducts Awareness Session on Self-Defence for Students
Government Home Science College, Sector-10, Chandigarh in collaboration with the Swayam Team of Chandigarh Police, organised an Awareness Session on Self-Defence for Students on September 17, 2026. The session aimed to empower young women by enhancing their confidence, awareness and preparedness to deal with challenging and potentially unsafe situations. More than 60 NSS Volunteers participated in the session with great enthusiasm and active involvement.
Chandigarh, September 22, 2026: Government Home Science College, Sector-10, Chandigarh in collaboration with the Swayam Team of Chandigarh Police, organised an Awareness Session on Self-Defence for Students on September 17, 2026. The session aimed to empower young women by enhancing their confidence, awareness and preparedness to deal with challenging and potentially unsafe situations. More than 60 NSS Volunteers participated in the session with great enthusiasm and active involvement.
The session was conducted by Lady Head Constable Balwinder Kaur and Lady Head Constable Ranjana from the Chandigarh Police Department, who sensitised the students about the significance of self-defence and personal safety. They emphasised that self-defence extends beyond physical strength and involves alertness, presence of mind, confidence, situational awareness and the ability to respond appropriately in difficult circumstances.
The resource persons also introduced the students to the basic concepts of martial arts and highlighted their role in developing discipline, self-confidence, physical fitness, mental preparedness and self-control. The interactive session encouraged students to remain vigilant, trust their instincts and develop a proactive approach towards their personal safety.
Principal of the college, Prof. Sudha Katyal emphasised the importance of conducting such awareness programmes for students in the present-day scenario. She further highlighted that empowering young women with knowledge, awareness and practical self-defence skills can contribute significantly towards their confidence and safety. Prof. Katyal encouraged the students to actively participate in such initiatives and make the best use of the opportunity to learn and practise appropriate self-defence techniques.
The session concluded with an encouraging response from the students, who appreciated the practical insights and guidance provided by the Chandigarh Police personnel. The programme reinforced the message that awareness, confidence and preparedness are important components of personal safety and empowerment.
