Gandhi’s ideology promotes holistic development: Prof. Bhardwaj

New Delhi, January 27, 2023: “The Gandhian aim of education is human transformation rather than simply to acquire information. Today ethics, morality, compassion and such values are accepted in theory but are difficult to implement in practice, whereas Gandhiji believed that the implementation of these values in practical life is the core of education” said Prof. Ramesh Chandra Bhardwaj, Vice Chancellor, Maharshi Valmiki Sanskrit University, Kaithal, Haryana at the Friday Dialogue organized by the Indian Institute of Mass Communication (IIMC). DG IIMC, Prof. (Dr.) Sanjay Dwivedi, Regional Directors, faculty members and students from all IIMC Regional Centers were present on the occasion.

Expressing views on the topic ‘Gandhi Ji & Basic Education’, Prof. Bhardwaj said that Gandhi believed that the foundation of education should be laid through mother tongue. It helps in inculcating values like love towards mother tongue and Swadeshi. According to Gandhi, through education a child must be able to learn a productive skill to meet his future needs. So he advocated education for self-reliance & capacity to earn one's livelihood.

Prof. Bhardwaj said that Gandhi Ji strongly believed that education cannot remain aloof from the powerful social and economic forces which are changing the social economic pattern of our society. Hence, he designed an education for all-round development even in the field of science and technology for improving the economic life of people and thereby eradicating poverty from the country.

The program was moderated by Dr. Dilip Kumar, Associate Professor, Jammu Campus, Welcome address was delivered by Prof. Pramod Kumar, HoD, Outreach Activities and the Vote of thanks was proposed by Dr. Rajesh Kushwaha, Associate Professor, Amravati Campus.
