Chennai, February 21, 2019: The staff of Frontier Mediville, The Maurice Lev ,Saroja Bharati Museum of Heart Diseases and the Centre For Excellence in Cardiac Pathology , a unit of the Dr KM. Cherian Foundation had organized CME Programme, On ‘Tetralogy Of Fallot’ at Frontier Mediville, Gummidipoondi. Prof. Dr.V Banumathi, Director of National Institute of Siddha, Ministry of Ayush, Government of India, who inaugurated the programme congratulated the authorities of frontier lifeline on conducting such an imaginative CME programme and offered to sign a MoU with the National Institute of Siddha, Ministry of Ayush, Government of India.

The welcome address was presented by Dr. K. M. Cherian, Chairman and CEO of Frontier Lifeline Hospital. The program was attended by prominent personalities like Dr Saroja Bharati, Rush Medical University, Chicago, USA and Dr Robert Coelho, MIOT Hospital. Other doctors from Frontier Lifeline Hospital including Dr. Sarasa Bharati, Dr. Ajeet Arulkumar, Dr. Raghavan Subramaniyam also took active part in the event.

It was a scientific programme with a vivid live demonstration by Dr. Saroja Bharati of a variety of hearts, starting from normal to all the varieties of Fallot Teratology, which was the Highlight of the day. The main objective of the CME program 2019 was to discuss about the Tetralogy of Fallot, which is one of the commonest congenital heart disease, which causes blue baby syndrome. The second objective was to improve research and extend the result obtained from research program towards improvement of identification of disease, which in turn would enable better medical and surgical treatment. The third objective was to convey the message to the community regarding the occurrence of Congenital Heart disease and the treatment obtainable therein.

Many interesting sessions took place at CME. Dr. Jebaraja from Sri Ramachandra Medical College presented a useful talk on CT/MRI technique used to diagnose Fallots, followed by Dr. Raghavan Subramaniyam Senior Pediatric Cardiologist of Frontier Lifeline Hospital, who delivered an excellent talk on medical interventional. Afternoon session was started by Dr.Ajeet Arul Kumar on medical aspects of Fallot and followed by surgical aspects, which was presented by Dr. Robert Coelho, Pediatric Cardiac Surgeon MIOT hospital with more than two decades of surgical experience. Dr Sarasa Bharati gave an exciting talk on the recent advances on the Genetics and the pathogenesis of Fallots.

Pioneer of paediatric cardio surgery in India, Dr. K M Cherian, Chairman and CEO of Frontier Lifeline Hospital & Frontier Mediville said, “The occurrence of CHD in India is approximately 4 cases per 1,000 live births with TOF comprising 7 to 32% of these cases, making it among the most common congenital abnormalities. While there have been many breakthroughs in the field, with ever-changing technology, it is imperative that industry peers get together and discuss about the latest trends to overcome this hurdle. I would like to thank all the doctors who took time off from their busy schedule and graced the event with their presence.”

Dr Saroja Bharati, who conducted course on ‘Hands on Cardiac Morphology’ said, “We wanted to increase the awareness of congenital disease with an object of prevention. Platforms like CME provide an excellent podium for discussion of such diseases. In today’s day and age of technology, it is very important to discuss new age solutions with fellow doctors and implement them for the welfare of people.”
