From Ghouls to Wasteland: A  guide to  the dystopian world of Prime Video’s upcoming series Fallout

The bombs have been dropped, the Vaults have been opened, and Fallout is coming exclusively to Prime Video on April 11. But before you dive into this post-apocalyptic saga, you must equip yourself with the know-how to survive the wasteland’s challenges. Brush up on your Fallout vocabulary with this handy glossary of key terms that will help you fully immerse yourself in the dystopian world of this highly popular video game-turned-series!

Brotherhood of Steel: Don't be fooled by the shiny armor. These militaristic folks are on a mission to control the Wasteland, using any means necessary. Think "paladins" with a side of "strict hierarchy."

Ghoul: Not quite human, not quite monster. Ghouls are mutated survivors with decaying flesh. Some are friendly, some are feral – tread carefully!

Great War: The big one. October 23rd, 2077, the day the world went boom. Remember, folks, nuclear war is not the answer.

Gulper: Imagine a giant, mutated salamander with a taste for human flesh. Yeah, not pleasant. Keep your rad detector handy!

RadAway: Your best friend in the Wasteland. This handy drug combats radiation sickness, a nasty side effect of all that fallout.

Smoothskin: This is how ghouls lovingly (or maybe not-so-lovingly) refer to regular humans. No offense intended, smoothskins, it's just a ghoul thing.

Vault Dweller: A.k.a. "Vaultie" or "Vaulter," these are the lucky (or maybe unlucky?) few who survived the Great War in underground Vaults. They're emerging now, blinking into the harsh sunlight of the Wasteland.

Vault-Tec: The pre-war corporation that built those fancy Vaults. Their motto? "Prepare for the future, underground!" They might not have mentioned the whole "raiders and mutants" thing, though.

Wasteland: This irradiated wasteland is your new home, smoothskins. It's a harsh world out there, so stay frosty!

So there you have it! With this vocabulary in your toolkit, you'll be able to navigate the wasteland like a seasoned survivor. The upcoming Amazon Original series Fallout stars Ella Purnell, Walton Goggins, Aaron Moten, Kyle MacLachlan, Sarita Choudhury, Michael Emerson, and Moises Arias in pivotal roles. While filmmaker Jonathan Nolan has directed the first three episodes of the eight-episode first season, he has also co-produced the series with his wife, Lisa Joy, under their banner of Kilter Films. Fallout will premiere on Prime Video in India and more than 240 countries and territories worldwide in English, with dubs in Hindi, Tamil, Telugu, Kannada, and Malayalam, starting April 11, 2024.
