Free ration provided to 3.78 lakh families in Ludhiana: DFSC

Ludhiana: Under the leadership and guidance Punjab Food, Civil Supplies & Consumer Affairs Minister Mr Bharat Bhushan Ashu, the Food & Civil Supplies Department Ludhiana is leading from front in ensuring ration and relief to needy during the Covid-19 crisis, with over 3.78 Lakh families provided free ration already. 
District Food & Supplies Controller Ludhiana Mr Sukhwinder Singh Gill said that under the Prime Minister Gareeb Kalyan Ann Yojana, free ration has been provided to 3,78,462 families out in District Ludhiana. He said that the Punjab Govt is providing free Ration to eligible Beneficiaries which includes 15 Kg wheat per member and 3 Kg pulses per family under PMGKAY scheme. He said that a total of 21850 MT wheat and 1120 MT pulses have been distributed till date. 
He stated that as many as 4,95,700 dry ration kits have also been delivered to the migrants labourers through district administration. These kits included 10 kg atta, two kg dal, two kg sugar.
Besides, free ration kits have also been provided under the Atma Nirbhar Scheme to 1,14,800 needy persons/labour/migrant workers, who are not smart card scheme beneficiaries and this work is still going on successfully. He said that out of 14 lakh such beneficiaries in the state, 5.86 lakh beneficiaries of these scheme are to be covered in district Ludhiana alone.
He informed that special teams for checking are being made to ensure ration delivery to needy people. He said that a total of 34 ration depots have also been suspended after finding discrepancies during checking performed.
