Free health check-up camp at PAU Kisan Mela addresses blood pressure and blood sugar awareness
The NSS Cell, under the Directorate of Students Welfare at PAU Ludhiana, organized a "Free Health Check-up Camp to screen for Blood Pressure and Blood Sugar - the Silent Killers", during the Kisan Mela. The initiative, part of the 'Mission Swasth Kavach' programme, was held in collaboration with Dayanand Medical College and Hospital (DMCH), Ludhiana.
Ludhiana, September 13, 2024: The NSS Cell, under the Directorate of Students Welfare at PAU Ludhiana, organized a "Free Health Check-up Camp to screen for Blood Pressure and Blood Sugar - the Silent Killers", during the Kisan Mela. The initiative, part of the 'Mission Swasth Kavach' programme, was held in collaboration with Dayanand Medical College and Hospital (DMCH), Ludhiana.
The camp was inaugurated by PAU's Vice Chancellor, Dr. S.S. Gosal, along with Dr. Rishi Pal Singh, Registrar; Bipin Gupta, Secretary, DMCH; Mukesh Kumar, Treasurer, Managing Society, DMCH; and Dr. Bishav Mohan, Professor of Cardiology at Hero DMC Heart Institute, along with his team.
Dr. Bishav Mohan, Project Coordinator, emphasized the importance of regular health check-ups, citing that 40% of individuals are diagnosed with high blood pressure and blood sugar for the first time during such screenings. He urged attendees to maintain these health markers for a healthy heart and a happy life.
Special guest at the event Bal Mukand Sharma, Former Additional Managing Director at Punjab Markfed, lauded university efforts in successful organization of the free medical camp at the kisan mela.
Dr. Nirmal Jaura, Director of Students’ Welfare, PAU, shared that the camp will be conducted over two days, September 13-14, 2024, during the Kisan Mela.
Supervised by Dr. Jaswinder Kaur Brar, Adjunct Professor for Student Welfare, and Dr. Harmeet Saralach, NSS Programme Coordinator, the camp saw a large turnout of farmers on its first day. All university authorities were present at the inaugural event.
