Jalandhar, April 7, 2015: Gatka Federation of India and Ek Onkar charitable trust Seechewal will organise fourth Ek Onkar national Gatka cup-2015 on May 29 and 30 at Nirmal Kuteya Seechewal in district Jalandhar.
Disclosing this known environmentalist and sports promoter Sant Balbir Singh Seechewal and general secretary Gatka Federation of India (GFI) Harjeet Singh Grewal State Awardee said Ek Onkar charitable trust and GFI would jointly hold annual forth Ek Onkar Gatka cup at Seechewal and champions to be honoured with running Ek Onkar Gatka trophy. He informed that GFI had accorded a national status to this yearly event as tournament is being conducted in conformity with prescribed Gatka rules of Federation.
Grewal said President World Gatka Federation Sukhdev Singh Dhindsa MP and senior SAD leader would be chief guest on opening ceremony whereas President Asian Gatka Federation SP Singh Oberoi and President Gatka Federation of India Harcharn Singh Bhullar would grace the concluding ceremony.
He further added that participating teams comprising men and women Gatkebaaz in age groups of U-14, U-17, U-19, U-22 and U-25 from about dozen States would participate in this cup. “Selection trials for Punjab Gatka teams will be conducted very shortly”, he said.
It is mentioned here that Gatka is a style of fighting only with sticks between two Gatka players, intended to simulate sword and focuses on infusing physical, spiritual and mental fitness. No sharp edged weapon is used in Gatka game. The present martial art form, Gatka, has been acknowledged as a recognized sport in all educational institutes and being played in the entire country and Diaspora.
