Chandigarh, August 13, 2025: To raise awareness on organ donation and help build a more informed society, Fortis Hospital Mohali held a session to observe Organ Donation Day in the hospital today. More than 50 employees from various departments took an oath and pledged to donate their organs.
The session was led by Dr. Sahil Rally (Consultant – Kidney Transplant) Fortis Hospital Mohali, along with Dr Amit Sharma (Senior Consultant, Nephrology, Dialysis and Kidney Transplant) Fortis Hospital Mohali wherein they covered critical issues such as the urgent need for donors in India, the types of organs and tissues that can be donated, process of organ donation for registration and the life-saving difference each donor can make. To bridge the gap between the number of patients in need and the number of available organ donors, doctors from the organ transplant team sensitized the staff and urged them to take a collective oath towards saving lives through organ donation.
Speaking on the occasion, Dr Sahil Rally, Consultant, Kidney Transplant, Fortis Hospital Mohali, said, “We’ve conducted a total of 17 organ transplants at our hospital since September 2023, including 14 kidney transplants and three liver transplants. One donor alone has the potential to save up to eight lives by donating vital organs such as hearts, lungs, liver, kidneys, pancreas & intestines, as well as improve the lives of other patients by donating tissues like skin, corneas, hands, heart valves, heart valves, tendons, bones as well as ligaments. The concept of organ transplantation has come as a boon and a true gift to humanity. More people should come forward and take a pledge to donate their organs.”
