Chandigarh, October 29, 2026: Satish Kumar on Thursday took oath as the new chairman of the Haryana Public Service Commission (HPSC), succeeding Alok Verma, whose six-year tenure ended recently.

Haryana Governor Prof Ashim Kumar Ghosh administered the oath of office and secrecy to Kumar at Haryana Lok Bhawan in the presence of Punjab Governor Gulab Chand Kataria, Haryana Chief Minister Nayab Singh Saini and Haryana Assembly Speaker Harvinder Kalyan, among other dignitaries. Family members of the newly appointed HPSC chairman were also present.

A former Haryana Civil Service (HCS) officer, Satish Kumar had taken voluntary retirement before assuming the new role. He was serving as deputy secretary in the HPSC before his appointment.

His appointment comes amid scrutiny over the commission’s recruitment process, particularly the selection of candidates against available vacancies. The Congress has also raised concerns over candidates from outside Haryana securing government jobs in the state.
