Rohtak/Chandigarh, June 26, 2026: Former Chief Minister and Leader of Opposition Bhupinder Singh Hooda expressed concern over the bank scams surfacing one after another. He stated that the entire matter should be investigated under the supervision of a Supreme Court or High Court judge to ensure that no guilty person escapes and no innocent person gets implicated.
Addressing a press conference at his residence, he also commented on the irregularities in HPSC recruitments and the hunger strike being observed by the youth against it.
Hooda mentioned that he had met the protesting youth and extended the Congress party's support for their demands. The demands of the youth—who are on a continuous hunger strike against the HPSC's practice of rigging recruitments and depriving Haryana youth of jobs, are entirely justified. The government should accept their demands without delay and bring the hunger strike to an end.
The Leader of Opposition stated that outsiders are being given preference over local youth for Class A and B jobs. Furthermore, recruitment posts are being deliberately left vacant; posts reserved for BC and SC categories are specifically being targeted.
“The government has turned the 35% criteria into a tool to avoid making recruitments and to deny young people Haryana their rights. This criterion should be scrapped immediately, and the vacant posts should be filled,” he said.
Expressing concern over the law and order situation, Hooda noted that Congress MLA Balram Dangi's office was fired upon earlier, and now a ransom demand has been made to him. “This indicates that criminals have no fear of the law. This is a very serious matter; if elected representatives are not safe today, how can the general public be safe,” he questioned.
Former CM Hooda remarked that while the Haryana government is entering into agreements to send water to Rajasthan, it is making no effort to secure Haryana's share of water from Punjab, even though the Haryana Chief Minister frequently visits Punjab. Yet, they never raise the issue of Haryana's water rights there. This reveals just how indifferent the BJP's attitude is towards Haryana's interests.
Commenting on the state's economic condition, he stated that the BJP has plunged Haryana into debt. The situation today is such that the government is taking out new loans merely to pay the installments on existing debt.
Extending his support to the residents of Chanaut village, the Leader of the Opposition asserted that the villagers must receive the water that is rightfully theirs. It is unfortunate that a village has to launch an agitation for a basic amenity like water.
