Rohtak, May 6, 2026: Former Chief Minister and Leader of the Opposition Bhupinder Singh Hooda asserted that the Congress will emerge victorious in the upcoming municipal corporation elections.

Speaking to media persons at Rohtak, Hooda said that the Congress party would secure a landslide victory with a massive majority in all three upcoming municipal corporation elections in Haryana. He predicted that Congress mayors and councilors would be elected in all the corporations. In municipal areas where the Congress is not contesting under its own election symbol, he appealed to the public to vote for a strong candidate who possesses the capability to defeat the BJP.

He characterized the BJP as an anti-farmer and anti-labor party. He asserted that law and order in the state has completely collapsed. The common man, he noted, continues to bear the brunt of relentless inflation.

Hooda highlighted that the government has recently hiked the price of commercial LPG cylinders by ₹993 within the span of just one month. “Prices had already risen by ₹115 in March and by ₹195.50 in April. Thus, in a mere three months, the price of a commercial cylinder has surged by approximately ₹1,303. Today, the price of a commercial cylinder stands at ₹3,071, whereas during the tenure of the Congress (UPA) government, the very same cylinder was available for ₹1,200. The BJP had promised to curb inflation prior to assuming power; instead, they have tripled the prices of every essential commodity,” he said.

He condemned the derogatory remarks being made by BJP leaders against former Chief Ministers; the late Chaudhary Bhajan Lal and the late Chaudhary Bansi Lal. He asserted that leaders holding responsible public offices ought to accord due respect to former Chief Ministers. Such remarks, he added, are reprehensible.

Addressing the issue of farmers, Hooda stated that he had toured Anaj Mandis across the entire state. He noted that not a single farmer is satisfied with the government's procurement mechanism. The BJP government, he alleged, has entangled farmers in a web of unnecessary bureaucratic hassles involving portals, registrations, gate passes, and verifications.

“Neither is procurement taking place in a timely manner, nor are payments being disbursed on time. Farmers are in acute distress,” he added.

Speaking on the elections in five states, the Leader of the Opposition said that the assembly elections in West Bengal and Assam were not conducted in a fair manner, as the role of the Election Commission remained questionable. He said the Congress party has succeeded in forming a government with an absolute majority in Kerala and has once again formed a coalition government in Tamil Nadu.
