Former CM Hooda alleges BJP Government of Orchestrating another Scam in the Name of Procurement of crops

Narayangarh/Barara (Ambala), April 9, 2026: Former Chief Minister and Leader of the Opposition Bhupinder Singh Hooda said that the BJP government engages solely in scams under the guise of crop procurement as the government continues to impose fresh conditions on farmers with the intent of ensuring that the government does not have to procure crops.

“Yet another scam is currently being orchestrated in the name of wheat and mustard procurement. Instead of actually procuring wheat and mustard, the government is imposing one bizarre condition after another upon the farmers. Conditions such as portal registration, gate passes, biometric verification, tractor registration numbers, general verification, and the requirement of a guarantor are being arbitrarily imposed,” he said,

“Farmers are being treated like criminals; all in all, the government's objective appears to be to keep farmers entangled in this bureaucratic maze so that it can avoid having to procure their crops altogether. During the Congress regime, procurement took place smoothly, and farmers never faced any such difficulties,” he added.

Hooda addressed a press conference in Narayangarh alongside the State Congress President, Rao Narendra on Thursday. Several senior leaders, including MLA Nirmal Singh, MP Varun Mulana, MLAs Akram Khan, Ramkaran Kala, and Pooja Mulana, as well as District President Dushyant Chauhan were also present.

Answering questions regarding the Rajya Sabha elections, noting that the MLAs who had cross-voted were accusing the party in-charge, the Leader of the Opposition, and the State President of taking discriminatory action against them, Hooda remarked that one often has to tell a hundred lies to cover up a single lie; such is the predicament in which these MLAs currently find themselves.

He asserted that the MLAs who engaged in cross-voting ought to resign immediately on moral grounds. He said these MLAs have not only betrayed their party but have also betrayed the very electorate that elected them to the Legislative Assembly specifically to oppose the BJP.

Commenting on the MLAs who engaged in cross-voting, Rao Narendra stated that strict action would be taken against all of them. "I have forwarded their names, along with my accompanying notes, to the party leadership. Further action will be initiated at the High Command level," he said.

"The Congress party had fielded these individuals as candidates and sent them to the public, and the public, placing its trust in the Congress, ensured their victory. If these individuals betray the very party that supported them, the public will undoubtedly teach them a lesson. No MLA can hope to escape accountability by resorting to falsehoods," he added.

Responding to questions of journalists, Hooda said he has been continuously touring the mandis (agricultural markets) in the state. He met with farmers, laborers, and Adhtiyas (commission agents). The farmers apprised him of the chaotic conditions prevailing within the mandi, and he has subsequently issued directives to the concerned officials regarding this matter.

Hooda asserted that the government perpetrated a scam during the paddy procurement season last year, followed by another during the potato procurement; now, similar conspiracies are clearly visible in the procurement of wheat and mustard as well. "The BJP government does not want to let go of even a single opportunity to fleece the farmers. This is because it is an anti-farmer government, in every sense," he said.

"Caught between the government's oppressive policies on one hand and the vagaries of the weather on the other, the farmers are being crushed. Due to incessant unseasonal rains, the standing crops have been ruined. Under these circumstances, the government must immediately conduct a special Girdawari (crop damage assessment) and provide compensation to the farmers,” he said.

“The government should also offer a bonus per quintal to the farmers; instead of doing so, however, ministers within the government are issuing statements claiming that the rainfall will actually lead to an increase in crop yields," he added.
