Rohtak, June 29, 2026: Former Chief Minister and Leader of the Opposition Bhupinder Singh Hooda celebrated the birth anniversary of Sant Kabir Das alongside Congress leaders and workers at the party office. Speaking on the occasion, Hooda remarked that Sant Kabir Das is counted among the great saint-poets of the Indian Bhakti movement.
Hooda said Sant Kabir propagated the revolutionary idea of treating all human beings as equals, rising above the barriers of caste and religion. “Kabir denounced the system of discrimination based on religion and caste and raised his voice against hypocrisy and orthodoxy. Kabir’s writings emphasize social equality, truth, love, and introspection, values that remain relevant today,” he said.
Subsequently, while responding to questions from journalists regarding the ongoing agitation over water supply in Chanaut village (Hansi), Hooda reiterated that water must be provided to both rural and urban areas; this is the government's responsibility. He termed it unfortunate that a village has to protest for a basic amenity like water.
He further stated that under the current BJP government, the entire state of Haryana is grappling with water and electricity shortages because the BJP never paid attention to these issues. In contrast, the Congress government had established four thermal power plants and one nuclear power plant in Haryana and signed agreements to procure electricity from other companies at affordable rates, effectively transforming Haryana into a power-surplus state. “Despite this, the entire state is currently suffering from prolonged power cuts because the BJP has not set up a single power generation unit during its 12-year tenure. Nor has this government established any major industries, large universities, significant projects, or new railway or metro lines in Haryana, the government is solely preoccupied with perpetrating scams,” he said.
“Bank scams are coming to light one after another. Prior to this, countless scams, including those related to the procurement of paddy and pearl millet, land deals, paper leaks, recruitment processes, and the cooperative sector, have already been exposed,” he added.
Regarding the Panchkula land scam, Hooda stated that it involves crores of Rupees. “Public confidence in the SIT investigation for this case will only be established if the entire process is conducted under the supervision of a sitting judge of the High Court or the Supreme Court,” he demanded.
He said several major scams have surfaced in Haryana in quick succession, with numerous IAS officers also under scrutiny. “Over the past 12 years, while SIT committees were formed to look into these various scams, they yielded no results, and no action was taken against the guilty. Therefore, we clearly demand an impartial investigation into all these scams under the supervision of a sitting judge of the High Court or the Supreme Court, ensuring that no culprit escapes accountability,” he said.
