Food Commission committed to ensuring quality food, Says Chairman Bal Mukand Sharma

Ludhiana, April 4, 2025: Bal Mukand Sharma, Chairman of the Punjab State Food Commission, reaffirmed the commission’s commitment to ensuring quality food for children in schools/anganwadi centers and people.

Speaking during a review of the mid-day meal program and National Food Security Act, Sharma stressed the critical role of nutritious food in safeguarding the health of future generations. He directed officials to prioritize the provision of wholesome meals to support children’s well-being and advocated for the establishment of Poshan Vatikas (nutrition gardens) in schools to grow fresh fruits and vegetables. He also emphasized the need for clean drinking water in all schools and anganwadi centers.

Highlighting the nutritional needs of pregnant and breastfeeding women, Sharma noted that access to healthy food is vital to combat anaemia in this group. He also urged the officials to display the commission’s toll-free helpline, 9876764545, prominently in all schools and anganwadis, encouraging the public to report any concerns about food quality.

Additionally, Sharma called for the promotion of organic farming, cautioning that the overuse of pesticides and fertilizers poses significant health risks. He reiterated that the effective implementation of the Food Security Act remains a top priority for the commission.
