A meeting with the Food and Agriculture Organization (FAO), United Nations, was held today at Bharthala Canal Rest House near Patiala Feeder Canal to review the progress of the MCAD project in Ludhiana Cluster.

Ludhiana, September 25, 2026: A meeting with the Food and Agriculture Organization (FAO), United Nations, was held today at Bharthala Canal Rest House near Patiala Feeder Canal to review the progress of the MCAD project in Ludhiana Cluster.
During the meeting, Navjot Singh, Superintending Engineer, Water Resources Department, briefed the FAO team and district-level officers regarding the progress of the project. It was informed that work at site has commenced and procurement of project materials has been completed. Construction of the Pump-cum-Sump House has also commenced at site, while pipeline laying work is scheduled to commence immediately after harvesting of the paddy crop.
The project is aimed at benefiting 465 farmers covering an area of approximately 1,388 hectares. Punjab Agricultural University (PAU) is playing an important role in farmer engagement and has also finalised the baseline survey for the project.
The FAO team, led by Dr. Waleed, Land and Water Officer , Regional office for Asia and the Pacific discussed the proposed interventions for strengthening the Water User Society (WUS) formed under the cluster. The team also highlighted the importance of creating awareness among farmers regarding the Decision Support System (DSS) and the effective use of data generated through SCADA and other field hi -tech equipments to improve irrigation efficiency and crop productivity.
The FAO team also interacted with farmers of the cluster and obtained their feedback regarding the project, their requirements and expectations.
The meeting was attended by Maninder Singh, SE Mohali; Buta Singh, XEN Ludhiana; concerned SDOs; district-level officers from Agriculture, Horticulture, Soil & Water Conservation and Rural Development & Panchayats; and representatives of PAU, FAO and the construction agency.
