Five-time National Award winner trains SUPVA students in film editing

Rohtak, October 23, 2026: Renowned film editor Sankalp Meshram, a five-time National Award winner, is conducting a workshop on the ‘Style and Aesthetics of Film Editing’ for students at Dada Lakhmi Chand State University of Performing and Visual Arts (SUPVA).

Organised for sixth-semester editing students of the Faculty of Film and Television, the workshop aims to sharpen their technical skills and creative understanding of filmmaking. Meshram stressed that the creative interplay of visuals, sound and time is crucial to effective film editing.

He told students that editing goes beyond joining shots or removing unwanted footage; it shapes storytelling, emotions and the audience’s experience. Explaining techniques such as shot selection, continuity, rhythm, montage, jump cuts and parallel editing, he demonstrated how editing choices can transform a film’s narrative and emotional impact.

The workshop also features an analysis of selected Indian and international films. Students are working with the same footage to create different edits, followed by collective reviews to understand how variations in pace, rhythm and shot selection can alter a scene’s meaning and impact. The workshop will conclude on Saturday.
