Krishi Vigyan Kendra, Pathankot under the guidance of Directorate of Extension Education, Punjab Agricultural University, Ludhiana conducted a five day training programme on "Beekeeping - A lucrative subsidiary occupation" from August 21-25.

Ludhiana, August 25, 2023: Krishi Vigyan Kendra, Pathankot under the guidance of Directorate of Extension Education, Punjab Agricultural University, Ludhiana conducted a five day training programme on "Beekeeping - A lucrative subsidiary occupation" from August 21-25. 

A total of 44 participants including eleven women attended this training. In the inaugural session Dr Narinder Deep Singh (Deputy Director) KVK, Pathankot, welcomed the participants and highlighted the importance of beekeeping as subsidiary occupation for generating extra income along with the farming for raising the living standard of rural people.

The training was coordinated by Dr. Naresh Kumar, Asstt. Professor, KVK Pathankot and experts were invited from different stations of PAU such as Dr. Rakesh Kumar Sharma, Assistant Professor, FASC Gangian, Dr Rajwinder Kaur, KVK, Gurdaspur and Jatinder Kumar, HDO, Pathankot. Lectures by the experts imparted knowledge regarding different aspects of beekeeping i.e. identification of different kinds of honey bees, management of honey bees during different seasons, care and management of hives, migratory beekeeping and management of insect-pest and diseases of honey bees. Moreover, information about various beekeeping development schemes including various kinds of financial support available like types of loan schemes, subsidies and financial help by government schemes for the beginners as well as upgradation of apicultural enterprise was also imparted. During the course, hands-on experience was also provided to the trainees by conducting practicals on various aspects of beekeeping.
