Five Days Self Defence Training Kickstarted at Home Science College
Five Days Self Defence Training commenced at Government Home Science College, Chandigarh in collaboration with the Swayam Team Chandigarh Police, Chandigarh. from February 18-22. The training is aimed at instilling confidence among girls to defend themselves against anti-social elements and also to facilitate their overall personality development. More than 80 NSS Volunteers participated with full zeal and enthusiasm.
Chandigarh, February 19,2026: Five Days Self Defence Training commenced at Government Home Science College, Chandigarh in collaboration with the Swayam Team Chandigarh Police, Chandigarh. from February 18-22. The training is aimed at instilling confidence among girls to defend themselves against anti-social elements and also to facilitate their overall personality development. More than 80 NSS Volunteers participated with full zeal and enthusiasm.
The session was conducted by Senior Lady Constable Balwinder Kaur from the Chandigarh Police Department. She elaborated on the significance of self-defence for every girl, especially in today’s society. Emphasising that self-defence is not limited to physical strength alone, she highlighted the importance of presence of mind, confidence, and alertness in challenging situations. She also introduced the concept of martial arts and explained its role in fostering discipline and self-control.
The Principal of the college, Prof. Sudha Katyal applauded the efforts of NSS Wing in organizing the training. She underscored the importance of such training workshops in the present scenario, where incidents of eve-teasing and other crimes against women are on the rise. Prof. Katyal encouraged the participants to make the most of this opportunity by actively learning and practicing various self-defence techniques to ensure their safety and well-being.
