Firing Incident at Marriage Palace a Matter of Serious Concern for Law and Order; Arms Licenses Must Also Be Investigated: Pawan Dewan

Ludhiana, December 1, 2025: Former President of the Ludhiana District Congress Committee (Urban) and senior Congress leader Pawan Dewan  has expressed deep concern over the law-and-order situation following yesterday’s firing incident at a marriage palace in Ludhiana. He has also demanded an investigation into the process of issuing arms licenses.

In a statement issued here, Dewan  said that the firing incident at a marriage palace located on Pakhowal Road, which resulted in the loss of two lives, is extremely tragic and worrying. He said that numerous events are held in the city every day and are attended by large gatherings. However, the way this incident unfolded raises serious questions not only about the law-and-order situation but also about the large number of arms licenses issued in recent years.

Commenting on the incident, he said that the individuals involved in the celebratory firing appear to have criminal tendencies. In such circumstances, it is essential to crack down on such elements. At the same time, there is also an urgent need to investigate the process through which weapons and arms licenses—especially those previously issued—were granted, so that firearms purchased for self-defence do not become tools for display or criminal acts.

He further appealed to Punjab Chief Minister Bhagwant Mann to issue strict orders for a thorough investigation into the matter.
