FIR lodged against portal owner on complaint of LPU

Jalandhar: The police have registered an FIR against the owner of the web portal named “Phagwara Express News” for publishing fake news and spreading malicious rumours, according to a release issued by Lovely Professional University (LPU) today.
The release further said name of the owner of the portal is Vinod Sharma who is the resident of Phagwara of Kapurthala district. This FIR has been registered on the complaint of Lovely Professional University. University has complained that “Phagwara Express News” had published fake news of the university official being Corona positive and has been admitted to the hospital. The news was further spread through his portal and other social media platform(s). University mentioned in its complaint that this fake news was published to create undue distress, ill will and panic among students, staff and the general public. University has further mentioned that the false news in also published to defame the university and to fulfil other ill intentions, known best to the owner Vinod Sharma.
Police have registered the FIR against Vinod Sharma under the Disaster and Management Act, 2005 section 54 and section 505(2) of the Indian Penal Code (IPC).
