FIH Junior Hockey World Cup Trophy Tour Reaches Chandigarh
Haryana Governor Ashim Kumar Ghosh Unveils the Trophy
Chandigarh, November 09, 2025: As part of the national trophy tour ahead of the FIH Men’s Junior Hockey World Cup, the trophy arrived in Chandigarh on Sunday. The unveiling ceremony was held at Hotel Hyatt, Sector 17, where Haryana Governor Ashim Kumar Ghosh officially inaugurated the trophy.
The event began with Karan Gilhotra, President of Hockey Chandigarh, welcoming all dignitaries and players. He highlighted that the purpose of the trophy tour is to generate enthusiasm and awareness about hockey across the country ahead of the World Cup, which will be held from 28 November to 10 December in Chennai and Madurai. He added, “This is not just a trophy journey; it is an opportunity to inspire our young players and hockey enthusiasts. We want the youth to develop a passion for this sport, hone their skills, and make the country proud on the international stage.”
Speaking on the occasion, Governor Ashim Kumar Ghosh said, “Hockey is a sport deeply connected to the soul of India. It is not merely a game but a symbol of our nation’s unity, discipline, and team spirit. The FIH Junior Hockey World Cup Trophy Tour will foster patriotism and sporting spirit among the youth. I am confident that the Indian team will once again deliver an outstanding performance and make the tricolor soar high.”
Anil Vohra, Vice-President of Hockey Chandigarh, stated that the trophy tour will pass through 20 cities before returning to Tamil Nadu, giving hockey fans across the country a chance to see the trophy up close.
Several hockey players, coaches, sports officials, and young athletes from the city were also present and extended their best wishes to the Indian team.
During the event, Senior Vice-President PJ Singh thanked everyone and said, “It is a moment of pride and inspiration for us that the FIH Junior Hockey World Cup Trophy has come directly to our city. Hockey Chandigarh has always worked to take young players to the international stage, and this trophy tour will further strengthen those efforts. I believe the youth should feel this energy, sharpen their talents, and aspire to bring glory to the nation. We want this trophy to serve not just as a symbol of the sport, but as a source of inspiration, deepening the passion and dedication for hockey.”
