Ludhiana, March 17, 2026: To commemorate the memory of Late Dr S B Khurana (former principal and professor & head of medicine), DMC&H organized the fifth Prof S B Khurana Memorial Oration today at Dumra Auditorium of DMC&H.
The memorial oration was delivered by Dr Aman Sharma, Professor of Clinical Immunology and Rheumatology at Postgraduate Institute of Medical Education and Research (PGIMER), Chandigarh on the topic “Excited World of Vasculitis”. Dr Sharma is a renowned expert in the field of clinical immunology and rheumatology and has made significant contributions to research, academics, and patient care.
The event was graced by Bipin Gupta, Secretary, DMC&H Managing Society; Mukesh Verma, Treasurer, DMC&H Managing Society; Principal Dr. G.S. Wander; Dean Academics, Dr. Sandeep Kaushal; Medical Superintendents Dr. Sandeep Sharma; Dr. Ashwani K. Chaudhary and Dr. Ashima Traneja, Additional Medical Superintendents; Dr. Bishav Mohan, Chief Cardiologist and Coordinator, Hero DMC Heart Institute; family members of Dr S B Khurana, along with former Principals, ex-faculty of the Department of Medicine, and other esteemed members of the DMC&H Managing Society, faculty members of DMC&H and medical students.
In his welcome address, Bipin Gupta, Secretary, DMC&H Managing Society, warmly welcomed all the guests present on the occasion and praised Dr. S.B. Khurana as a ‘doyen of the medical fraternity’ and an eminent physician of the region. He further highlighted that DMC&H is privileged to have a distinguished personality like Dr. S.B. Khurana associated with the institution.
Dr. G.S. Wander, Principal DMC&H shared the inspiring life journey of Dr. Khurana, highlighting his remarkable contributions to the medical field. Born on November 29, 1938, Dr Khurana did his MBBS from Government Medical College, Amritsar, in 1961 and MD in medicine with cardiology as special subject in 1965. During his undergraduate and postgraduate career, he always secured university positions and got merit scholarships. He joined DMC&H as a senior lecturer in 1967 and rose to the rank of professor in 1975. He took over as medical superintendent in 1980. He was actively associated in various committees of the college and the hospital and participated with zeal and enthusiasm in growth of the institution. He took over as principal of DMC&H on September 1, 1994.
Dr Aman Sharma, Professor of Clinical Immunology and Rheumatology, PGIMER delivered an engaging and insightful talk on the fascinating and complex spectrum of vasculitis. Emphasis was placed on developing a structured approach to patients, highlighting when to suspect vasculitis. A key takeaway was the critical importance of meticulous history-taking and thorough clinical examination, which often provide the first and most valuable clues. Overall, the session underscored that early recognition, guided by clinical vigilance and supported by targeted investigations, is vital for timely diagnosis and improved patient outcomes.
During the event, the Best Nursing Staff award was presented to Ms. Narinder Kaur in recognition of her dedicated service.
