Ludhiana, January 18, 2014: The office-bearers of Federation of Industrial & Commercial Organisation (FICO) have opposed the decision by the Centre to extend the industrial package to the neighbouring states upto March 2017.

Addressing the meeting, the president of FICO Gurmeet Singh Kular said Punjab being the border state and affected by terrorism for 10 years has been completely ignored by the Centre, the manufacturers of Himachal Pradesh and Uttarakhand would have a competitive edge and they would be selling their products at cheaper prices. On the other hand, manufactures of Punjab would not be able to target the market because of high price.

“This is a great setback to the industry of Punjab because it is already facing challenges”, said Kular. He added the industry in Punjab was facing labour shortage, paying higher freight as the state was located far from sea coast. He demanded that either the Centre should roll back its decision or Punjab should also be given the package.

Manjinder Singh Sachdeva General Secretary, Rajiv Jain Secretary, Jagatvir Singh Joint Secretary and Balbir Singh Mankoo Finance Secretary were present.//
