FICO Demands 24×7 Uninterrupted Power Supply from PSPCL

Ludhiana, August 7, 2026: A delegation of the Federation of Industrial & Commercial Organization (FICO), led by Gurmeet Singh Kular, President, FICO, met Dr. Basant Garg, CMD, PSPCL, and submitted a memorandum highlighting key power-related issues being faced by the industrial sector in Ludhiana.
The meeting was also attended by Jagdev Singh Hans, Chief Engineer, Central Zone, PSPCL, and Surjeet Singh, Deputy Chief Engineer West, PSPCL. Kulwinder Singh Deputy Chief Engineer East PSPCL.
The delegation included Rajeev Jain Senior Vice President FICO, Avtar Singh Bhogal Convenor UCPMA, Satnam Singh Makkar Propaganda Secretary FICO, S. Inderjeet Singh Navyug, Gagnish Singh Khurana Head Agriculture Implements Division FICO, K.K. Garg, Sandeep Jain, Kulwant Singh NHK, Rakesh Garg, S.P. Singh Dua and Rahul Ahuja.
Gurmeet Singh Kular stated that power is a basic raw material for industry and uninterrupted, quality power is essential for production and competitiveness. He demanded 24×7 uninterrupted power supply to industrial areas and focal points.
FICO raised the demands such as stop unscheduled power cuts in industrial areas. Preventive maintenance should preferably be carried out on Sundays and advance notice of at least two days should be given; ensure quality power and control voltage fluctuations to prevent damage to industrial machinery; restore G.O. Switches for industrial units to protect equipment and transformers and minimise tripping of neighbouring units; issue actual electricity bills instead of average bills wherever meter readings are available; introduce a Night Tariff of ₹2.50 per unit to promote off-peak industrial consumption; revise industrial power categories—Small Power up to 49 KVA, Medium Supply up to 149 KVA and Large Supply above 149 KVA; strengthen PSPCL manpower for faster restoration of faults and breakdowns; abolish fixed charges for operating industrial units and review the two-part tariff structure; withdraw night blackouts from 10 PM to 6 AM on industrial feeders, which are disrupting production and increasing security concerns in industrial areas; and augment transformers, particularly in Mixed Land Use areas, with higher-capacity transformers and improved load management.
Kular said, “For industry, power is not merely a utility; it is a raw material. Every interruption directly affects production, costs and delivery commitments.”
FICO urged PSPCL to take time-bound action on the issues and ensure reliable and uninterrupted power supply to Punjab's industrial sector.
Dr. Basant Garg, CMD, PSPCL, gave a patient hearing to the delegation and assured that the issues raised would be examined and appropriate action taken.
