Ferozepur, November 8, 2015: Ferozepur police have achieved a major success and claimed to have nabbed the main accused behind the sacrilege incident which took place at Village Naju Shah Mishri near Ferozepur on 16thOctober. While addressing the press conference, Hardyal Singh Mann, SSP, Ferozepur said that the accused has been identified as Sukhjinder Singh alias Sukha (23), a resident of village Naju Shah Mishri.
The SSP said that last month, the construction work was going on in the village Gurdwara at Naju Shah Mishri due to which Sukhwinder Singh, the head granthi of the Gurudwara, with the consent of village residents, had temporarily installed Sri Guru Granth Sahib in the adjoining room. On 16th October, when the labourers working in the gurudwara and the granthi, had gone for lunch, some unidentified miscreants had torn off few pages of Sri Guru Granth Sahib. A case was later registered at Kulgarhi police station.
The SSP said during the investigation, the needle of suspicion tilted towards Sukhjinder Singh alias Sukha. The SSP said that Sukhwinder Singh, the head granthi had earlier scolded Sukhjinder once or twice due to his mischievous acts. The SSP said that once the granthi had found Sukhjinder throwing stones on the flex boards installed in the village due to which he had rebuked Sukhjinder. Few days later, when the granthi found Sukhjinder loitering on his bike in night, he again scolded Sukhjinder. The SSP said that due to these incidents, Sukhjinder started hating the Granthi and now he was looking forward for a chance to humiliate the granthi Sukhwinder Singh.
The SSP said that on 16th October, when the Gurdwara premises was deserted, Sukhjinder alone entered in the Gurdwara and torn off few pages of Sri Guru Granth Sahib. “Since Sukhjinder was a regular visitor, he knew where Sri Guru Granth Sahib was instituted at present. He was thinking that people will blame the granthi Sukhwinder for the incident and his revenge will be completed”, said SSP.
The SSP said that the police are further investigating the matter to trace the involvement of more persons in this case. The SSP also thanked to all the residents of Village Naju Shah Mishri including the Sarpanch and the Head Granthi Sukhwinder Singh for their cooperation.
