Ferozepur, May 8, 2026: Ten progressive farmers from this borderr district were honoured for adopting environment-friendly farming practices and effectively managing crop residue without burning stubble during a conference on “Sustainable Agriculture and Crop Residue Management” organised at Punjab Agricultural University.
The programme was organised jointly by PAU, Clean Air, Sanjh and Aasra organisations with the objective of encouraging farmers who have contributed towards environmental conservation through modern agricultural techniques.
During the conference, progressive farmers from different villages of Ferozepur district were recognised as “Green Champions” for successfully managing crop residue. Among those honoured were young farmers Prabhjot Singh and Manpreet Singh from village Mankianwali, Veer Singh and Jaspal Singh from village Shakur, Mandeep Singh from village Loombriwala, Parmjeet Singh and Gurnam Singh from village Khanna, and Shagandeep Singh and Tarsem Singh from village Mirje Ke.
The farmers were appreciated for avoiding stubble burning and instead using eco-friendly alternatives such as incorporating residue into the soil or utilising it for industrial purposes. Officials said their efforts had set an example for other farmers in the region.
The role of Krishi Vigyan Kendra was also highlighted during the event. Through regular awareness campaigns and training camps, the KVK team has been motivating farmers to adopt modern machinery such as Happy Seeder, Smart Seeder, Super Seeder and Mulcher for scientific crop residue management.
Dr. Gurmel Singh, Deputy Director, congratulated the honoured farmers and said the Krishi Vigyan Kendra was continuously providing technical guidance and machinery support to improve soil health and promote balanced use of fertilisers. He said these progressive farmers were playing a vital role in spreading awareness among other farmers by acting as ambassadors of sustainable agriculture.
He appealed to farmers to make the protection of natural resources including air, water and soil a priority for ensuring long-term sustainability in agriculture.
Farmers from several other districts of Punjab also participated in the conference and pledged to continue adopting eco-friendly farming practices in future.
