Ferozepur, August 16, 2014: The Ferozepur District Chess Association (FDCA) which is committed to promote sports activities in the district – today organised 20th Open Chess Championship at local RSD College.
The Championship was inaugurated by A.K.Sethi, Principal, Ram Sukh Dass College today on 68th Independence Day celebrations.
Suresh Sharma, Executive Member, FDCA informed that more than 200 players from various schools in the district have registered themselves for three days 20th Open Chess Championship started today.
He further stated that in total, each player will play 9 rounds of game and the initial game will be of one hour and maximum two hours. In the final round, the time for the game is allowed up to 3 hours.
He informed that in October 2014, the Association has planned to organise All India Chess Championship for which the winner will receive a Prize money worth Rupees 50,000 cash and all the participants from outstations will be provided free lodging and boarding.
Pankaj Sharma, President of the FDCA said as per previous surveys made by the specialists, Chess enhances the strength of the mind. The students, who participates in the chess becomes smarter and sharp minded. Such students also get higher marks of 80 and 90 percent plus in annual exams.
