As part of the nationwide 'Azadi Ka Amrit Mahotsav ' celebrations to commemorate 75 years of India's Independence, the Governor of Punjab, Banwarilal Purohit, visited Vajra Corps at Jalandhar Cantt today.

Jalandhar, September 7, 2022: As part of the nationwide 'Azadi Ka Amrit Mahotsav ' celebrations to commemorate 75 years of India's Independence, the Governor of Punjab, Banwarilal Purohit, visited Vajra Corps at Jalandhar Cantt today. The Governor Banwarilal Purohit is a political veteran with distinction of having been the Governor of Assam and Tamil Nadu. The felicitation was organised as a tribute to the veterans and martyrs for their contribution in service of the nation. Lieutenant General Devendra Sharma, General Officer Commanding, Vajra Corps highlighted the immense contribution of the Veterans and the sacrifices of the brave hearts while reinforcing Vajra Corps commitment towards National Security.
 
The Governor felicitated a total of 23 Veterans and Veer Naris of the tri services, many of whom have actively fought in 1971 war, Operation Pawan in Sri Lanka and Operation Rakshak in Jammu and Kashmir. The Service personnel felicitated included 1 Kirti Chakra, 3 Veer Chakra, 4 Shaurya Chakra, 11 Sena Medal, 1 Yudh Seva Medal and 2 Vishisht Seva Medal awardees. Veteran Olympians and Arjuna Awardee Brigadier Harcharan Singh (Retd) and Col Balbir Singh (Retd) were also felicitated in the ceremony. The felicitation ceremony also witnessed 06 Veer Naris being felicitated by the Honourable Governor of Punjab. Senior most veteran Lieutenant General SS Sangra (Retd), erstwhile Army Commander Western Command also graced the occasion.
 
The Governor complemented the professionalism and ethos of the Indian Army and lauded the invaluable contribution of the Defence Forces towards Nation Building. He amplified that the Nation shall forever remain indebted to the Armed Forces for their selfless service and supreme sacrifice. Reiterating the 'Nation First' ideology, he lauded the Defence Forces personnel for being torch bearers and role models for citizens of our country. The Governor also assured the Veterans and Veer Naris of the Government's and Nation's commitment towards their well-being, safety, honour and dignity. The ceremony was also attended by senior military officers, Veterans, Veer Naris, serving soldiers and civil dignitaries.
