Farmers stage protest outside Punjab Agriculture Development Bank Branch at Guruharsahai


Ferozepur, December 27, 2107: The members of Bhartiya Kisan Union (Dakonda), Kisan Sabha Punjab and Krantikari Kisan Union, Punjab today staged a protest outside the Punjab Agriculture Development Bank (PADB) Branch at Guruharsahai.
The members of various Kisan union were demanding the release of two farmers who were arrested for non-payment of the bank dues on 22nd December. It is pertinent to mention here that two farmers identified as Vazir Singh of Village Chakk Shergah and Jagir Singh of Village Megha Rai in Guruharsahai sub-division were arrested for non-payment of bank dues.
Kisan Union leaders Hari Chand, Bhagwan Dass, Gurmit Singh Mehma, Avtar Singh, Sukh Dev Singh Mehma, Harnek Singh, Darshan Singh Karma, Guljar Singh said that the Congress led state government has betrayed with the farmers of Punjab. They said that before elections Capt. Amarinder Singh had promised that all the loans of the farmers will be waived off but opposite to their fake promises, the government is arresting the farmers.
Baljit Singh Brar, Manager of the bank said that one of the farmers had taken loan of Rs.One Lakh while other had taken loan of Rs.Eighty Thousand from the bank in 1996. “While one of them has not returned a single penny while the other had deposited Rs.35,000 from the principal amount and around Rs.One Lakh is pending as interest amount”, said Brar.
He said that both of these farmers had not applied for agriculture loan. “They had taken loan for their personal liabilities not for agriculture”, said Dhillon.
