FADA President Sai Giridhar’s comment on Sep'26 Electric Vehicle retail data

"September delivered the highest-ever monthly EV retail India has recorded — 3,33,634 units across categories, up 74% year-on-year — lifting overall EV penetration to about 13%, from 10% a year ago. This deserves a distinction: unlike the broader market, where September's headline is flattered by a weak year-ago base, the EV number is a clean, absolute record. Electric vehicles did not merely grow against last year — they set a new all-time high.
And the record was led from the mass market. Electric Two-Wheelers touched a fresh all-time high of 2,07,314 units, taking their share to 11.6% — more than one in nine two-wheelers retailed is now electric. Electric Passenger Vehicles also set an all-time record at 36,108 units, with penetration rising to 8.5%. Three-Wheelers remain structurally electric at 64.9%, and while Electric Commercial Vehicles eased month-on-month, they still grew over 150% year-on-year as fleet electrification deepens.
Festive demand, maturing running-cost economics, a widening choice of models and sustained policy support through PM E-DRIVE and progressive state schemes are together turning the EV from an alternative into a default consideration for a growing set of buyers. This is no longer a subsidy-led story; it is a demand-led one. Electric mobility is now a durable thread of the India Growth Story — and September shows it accelerating, not plateauing."
