Dr. Tejpal Singh Gill, Chairman of Punjab State Grains Procurement Corporation Limited (PUNGRAIN), accompanied by the District Controller, Food Supply Department, Ludhiana, today conducted an extensive review of wheat procurement arrangements across key mandis in Ludhiana district.
Ludhiana, April 18, 2026: Dr. Tejpal Singh Gill, Chairman of Punjab State Grains Procurement Corporation Limited (PUNGRAIN), accompanied by the District Controller, Food Supply Department, Ludhiana, today conducted an extensive review of wheat procurement arrangements across key mandis in Ludhiana district.
During the visit, Dr. Gill meticulously inspected the operational setup at grain markets of Jagraon, Mullapur, Raqba and Jodhan to ensure seamless procurement operations amid the ongoing Rabi marketing season. He engaged directly with farmers, attentively listening to their concerns regarding procurement processes, weighing mechanisms, and any logistical challenges. Emphasizing farmer welfare, he inquired about the timely availability of bardana (gunny bags) supplied by various procurement agencies such as PUNGRAIN, MARKFED, and PSWC , which is critical for efficient grain handling.
Dr. Gill also reviewed the status of direct benefit transfers (DBT) to farmers' accounts, underscoring the Punjab government's commitment to prompt payments within the stipulated window. In a separate interaction, he met with Arhtiyas (commission agents), addressing their operational issues and reinforcing collaborative efforts to expedite wheat lifting. As of today, mandis in Ludhiana district have received around 1,05,000 MT of wheat, out of which 93,000 MT has already been procured By Procurement agencies.
Dr. Gill directed officials to intensify monitoring, resolve bottlenecks proactively, and maintain high standards of transparency and efficiency. The visit reaffirms PUNGRAIN's pivotal role in bolstering Punjab's status as the nation's wheat granary.
