Extension Lecture on 'Algebra and Coding Theory' at BMU

Rohtak, March 15, 2026:  Under the guidance of Prof. B.M. Yadav, Vice-Chancellor of Baba Mastnath University (BMU), Asthal Bohar, and Prof. Vinod Kumar, HOD Mathematics and Registrar, an extension lecture was organized by the Department of Mathematics on the topic "Algebra and its Applications in Coding Theory."

Organized by the Physics Club in collaboration with the IQAC, the event featured Dr. Jagbir Singh, Associate Professor in the Department of Mathematics at MDU, as the keynote speaker. Dr. Singh highlighted the pivotal role played by algebraic structures in modern coding theory. He explained that error detection and error correction techniques—which are fundamentally rooted in algebraic principles—are employed in digital communication systems to ensure the secure and reliable transmission of data.

Discussing the fundamental concepts of algebraic coding theory in detail, Dr. Jagbir Singh noted that polynomials, finite fields, and various other algebraic methods play a crucial role in the development of reliable communication systems. He further stated that coding theory is being extensively utilized in mobile communication, satellite communication, internet data transmission, and modern data storage technologies.

Prof. Naveen Kumar, Dean of Academic Affairs, encouraged research scholars to undertake in-depth studies regarding the challenges inherent in research. Prof. Manoj Kumar, Dean of the Faculty of Science, remarked that such academic programs play a significant role in enriching the knowledge base of students and research scholars.

The event was attended by faculty members, research scholars, and students, including Prof. Sangeeta Malik (In-charge, Physics Club), Prof. Pooja Bhatia (Organizing Secretary), Prof. Praveen Bhatt, Prof. Vinod Bhatia, and Prof. Kamal Kumar. The participants engaged actively in the session, addressing their queries and seeking clarifications by posing questions to the keynote speaker.
