Excise & Taxation officials hold meeting with traders/shopkeepers associations to boost GST compliance and revenue

The Department of Excise & Taxation, Office of the Assistant Commissioner of State Tax (ACST), Ludhiana-3 held a meeting with representatives from various traders and shopkeepers’ associations of Ghumar Mandi.

Ludhiana, Sept 17, 2025: The Department of Excise & Taxation, Office of the Assistant Commissioner of State Tax (ACST), Ludhiana-3 held a meeting with representatives from various traders and shopkeepers’ associations of Ghumar Mandi. 

The meeting was focused on sensitizing stakeholders about the new GST rates under the GST 2.0 regime, as announced by the GST Council, and fostering compliance to enhance government revenue.

The associations represented diverse sectors, including Hosiery and Readymade Garments, Crockery, Utensils, Jewellers, Diamond Merchants, Handloom Stores, Bridal Goods, and Electronic Goods. 
 
ACST, Ludhiana-3 Shinee Singh, briefed attendees on the upcoming GST rate changes, effective this month, which include reduced tax rates in several sectors to stimulate economic activity and simplify compliance. Notably, readymade garments priced at Rs. 2,500 and above will now attract an 18% GST rate. Singh elaborated on the GST reforms, emphasizing their role in boosting economic growth and easing compliance burdens for businesses. Association members were encouraged to adopt proactive measures to ensure proper tax compliance, contributing to increased government revenue.

The ACST underscored a strict policy against tax evasion, promoting transparency and accountability in tax practices. The meeting emphasized the need for collaboration between GST authorities and taxpayers to ensure a smooth transition to the new rate structure. Associations were also urged to educate their members about GST reforms and compliance requirements to foster widespread adherence to tax laws.

STOs ETI Gupta and Harpreet Singh, ASTOs Hardeep Singh Ahuja, Rajesh Kumar, Rajwinder Singh, and Gursharan Kaur saw active participation from association representatives, including Dalbir Singh, Dilpreet Singh, Brijesh, Jaswinder Singh, Ravinder Singh, Amit Dhawan, Ravi Sachdeva, Ram Gopal Chaudhry, Sanjay Aggarwal, and Sandeep Khullar.

The session concluded with a shared commitment to strengthen GST compliance and drive revenue growth, laying the foundation for a collaborative approach to implementing GST reforms, particularly in the hosiery and textile sectors. 

Nodal Officer Hardeep Singh Ahuja, announced that similar meetings with associations from other sectors are planned in the coming days to ensure widespread awareness and compliance.
