Excise and police teams recover 35000-litre lahan, 59 illicit liquor bottles from two women

Ludhiana, April 13, 2024: In a joint operation against illicit liquor on the directions of District Election Officer-cum-Deputy Commissioner Sakshi Sawhney, the Punjab excise along with police department have seized 35000-litre lahan and 59 bottles of illicit liquor on Saturday. 

Assistant Commissioner (Excise) Inderjit Singh Nagpal informed that the teams led by Excise Inspectors Harshpinder Singh and Balkaran Singh along with local Sidhwan Bet Police consucted raids in Sherawala and Walipur Khurd and seized 35000-litre lahan. Besides, the team also recovered 50 bottles of illicit liquor from two women namely Mandeep Kaur and Bimal Bai of Sherewala. The seized lahan was destroyed on the spot by the team. 

Separate cases have been registered against both women under Excise Act. 

District Election Officer Sakshi Sawhney reiterated her commitment of free, fair and transparent polls in Ludhiana as elaborate arrangements were put in place to ensure peaceful environment during the polls.
