Exchange Program on Waste to Wealth and Cultural Exchange

Chandigarh, December 13, 2018: Social Substance in collaboration with NSS, PU organized an exchange program for students and faculty of Government Middle School, Sector 33 with Jawahar Navodaya Vidyalaya, Chandigarh and Ankur School, Chandigarh

Under theme ‘Waste to Wealth: how to manage your solid waste’ about forty students and faculty members of GMS visited Ankur School to see various initiatives taken at school. The students were given a complete round of the school with focus on exchanging ideas of converting solid waste into treasure. There were tyres, flush tanks, tube rods, handmade pots etc. that mesmerized the students. They were engrossed by intriguing narrative and knowledge of Ms. Jyoti and Mr. Vinod, Art Teachers of Ankukr School.

Students were shown gardens developed using the waste material such as plastic bottles, fallen and dried fruits, broken tanks etc. Ms. Mukesh Jakhar, Maths Teachers who was leading the students’ team mentioned that art room of Ankur School was converted into a kind of Laboratory where waste went in and treasure came out. Overall she was very happy to be part of this exchange program.

Dr. Parminder Duggal, Principal Ankur School was proactive like ever while explaining students about the creation of sports’ wall. She illustrated how she converted waste pipes into a beautiful display of Hockey. She arranged refreshments and distributed art books to visiting students.

Under theme ‘Cultural Exchange: A way to learn from each other’ about forty students and faculty members of GMS visited JNV School to see various academic and co-curricular initiatives taken at school. The students were given a complete round of the school with focus on exchanging ideas of training young minds. Students met with teachers from sports, music, and SST.

SST teacher facilitated a visit to innovative open air models developed at JNV to teach various classes. The models consisted various aspects of science including geography, astronomy, geology etc. Students were very happy to see the model and felt they were right walking on delta.

Students were given a visit to library as well. Then came the bagpipers. It was another world experience to students who had shown much interest in bagpiping. Ms. Mukesh Jakhar, Maths Teachers who was leading the students’ team mentioned that she and her students would always remember this visit as a treasure. Overall she was very happy to be part of this exchange program.

Mrs. Santosh Sharma, Principal JNV, Chandigarh mentioned that she had been proactive for such programs and was open to any resource person visiting the school to value add for students of her school. She looked forward to idea of more such exchange programs.

Dr. Arun Bansal from Panjab University coordinated and convened the Program mentioned that in order to correct the global scenario we must act locally. Such exchange Programs would be boon for students and must be initiated at mass level.
